This movement is commonly known as the ‘Charismatic Movement.” It involves not only various Protestant churches but Roman Catholic churches as well. A major 1992 survey of religious institutions in the Greater Rio area of Brazil found that 61% of all existing churches were pentecostal. It would appear that they subscribe to that notion that is all too common within the Church today, that the post-conciliar Church is somehow more enlightened and blessed than was the pre-conciliar Church, and that no small amount of credit for this is due to the Charismatic Renewal Movement.

The current literature is very much aware of the dangers.14 Moreover, the effects of ordinary Christian infant baptism are ignored or neglected in favor of a basically up-scriptural "Baptism of the Holy Spirit" which is theologically very confusing. Catholics know (as a matter of faith) that a person who has received the sacrament of Baptism is now living a life of grace which God in His ordinary economy simply does not accompany with extraordinary phenomena , cited: 50 Days for a Firm Foundation read here read here. Representatives of the charismatic movement in the historic churches expressed different views on baptism. Some agreed substantially with the Roman Catholic, others with the classical Pentecostal view. 27 , e.g. Seasonal Retreats and Prayer Services for Young Adolescents I join hands with Charles Pack above who you have refuted as being wrong. Olson, who is also a former Pentecostal and familiar with the practices of the movement. Olson comments: "Still another aspect of Pentecostalism's dark side is its tendency to condone dishonesty on the part of influential and popular evangelists and ministers. One day I was browsing through the books at a publishers' overstock sale and came across the autobiography of a Pentecostal evangelist who held tent revival meetings in the small Midwestern city where I grew up , cited: Azusa Street Papers - download here

The experience is what matters, not the intellects legitimate questions, such as "Why the 2000-year lapse? Is this experience really the same as the phenomena described in Scripture? Is the Spirit leading us toward a more fully Catholic life or toward apostasy?" The failure of Charismatics to "try the spirits" [I Jn. 4:1] is possibly their most dangerous blunder since the Devil can produce prodigies which mimic truly supernatural phenomena from God , e.g. Children of Heaven The Night read online read online.
