This course will present a broad overview of the major areas of modern biochemistry. Both of the former institutions had contributed to scientific advances over the last century including the total synthesis of crystalline bovine insulin, the total synthesis of yeast alanine tRNA, the artificial propagation of domestic fresh-water fish and artificial monogenesis of amphibian oocytes. At the completion of the two rotations, students must take and pass an oral candidacy examination, and, with a research mentor, begin to develop and execute an independent thesis project.
