In the years known as the Silver Age of Comics, we moved into a rediscovery of the heroes that went to World War II with us. It is high on my list because this was the beginning and the breakthrough work that made both Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross into comic legends. Graphic novels often served as entry points or bridges to other literacy experiences for the participants in this study. Pairing selections from his work with a graphic novel or comic can provide interesting discussion and inquiry into the elements of the genre itself.
